Infant Baptism includes children from birth until their 6th Birthday. If your child is 7 years of age or older, please contact the Director of Religious Education for more information regarding your child’s reception of the Sacraments of Initiation.
For the baptism to take place at St. Clare of Assisi, at least one of the parent MUST ATTEND AND BE REGISTERED in the parish. If you are registered in the parish, but happen to live outside our parish boundaries, you must show active participation in the community for at least 6 months.
Parents are also required to attend Pre-Baptism Classes before the baptism is scheduled. This class takes place every first Tuesday of the month from 7PM – 9PM in Renehan Hall. Please make sure to register for the class with the parish office (661) 252-3353. If you have attended a class within the last 3 years, please bring proof of your attendance to the parish office at the time you schedule the Baptism.
A child may have either one or two Godparents. A Godparent MUST be a Confirmed and practicing member of the Catholic Church. It is possible for one of the two people chosen to be a validly baptized member of another Christian denomination. This would be the role of a Christian Witness. It is important to remember that one of the roles of a Godparent or Christian Witness is to make a formal rejection of sin and profession of faith in the name of the child. Specifically, this means rejecting the power of evil and professing the Church’s belief in One God who is three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and belief in the Church as One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic.
THE BAPTISMAL CEREMONY
Baptisms take place on the 3rd and 4th Sunday of the month at 2PM.
All Baptisms must be scheduled through the parish office beforehand.
WE DO NOT CELEBRATE PRIVATE BAPTISMS.
While the Church does not charge a set fee for Sacraments, an envelope will be provided to you in order to make a freewill donation. We ask that this donation be in proportion with your other expenses for the day.
- For more information, please see our Pre-Baptism Classes page or call the parish office during business hours M-F.
